Alexander Woodward is a New York based designer focused in scenic and costume design for live performance in theatre, opera and dance.
Alexander has found delight collaborating on projects that span the performance art form: most frequently through scenic design, exploring the relationship of characters to space. Recent credits include Ugly Lies the Bone (Alliance) the world premiere of Lucy Thurber's Orpheus in the Berkshires (Williamstown) and The Moors at Yale Rep which received a Connecticut Critics Circle Nomination for Outstanding Scenic Design, other credits include The Children, Don Juan, Othello (Yale); Fingers & Toes (New York and Florida); Once Five Years Pass, Dixon Family Album, Schmoozy Togetherness (Williamstown); Ruby Place Nest on the Ground (Signature Theatre); What I Thought I Knew, and the world premiere of Waiting for Spring and Birds of East Africa (Kitchen Theatre Company); As well as numerous assistant and associate credits in New York and across the country including the Tony-nominated designs for Bullets Over Broadway, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, The Assembled Parties, and Present Laughter.
For the past three years Alexander has been the head of the Scene Design Department at the Williamstown Theatre Festival fostering the internship program as well as In The Wings the design showcase for young artists. He holds a Master of Fine Arts (Yale School of Drama), a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Ithaca College) and is a proud member of United Scenic Artists Local 829.
