S. Katy Tucker
Video and Projection Design
S Katy Tucker is a video and projections designer based in Brooklyn, New York. Tucker began her career as a painter and video installation artist, exhibiting in a variety of galleries such as the Corcoran Museum in Washington, DC, and Artists’ Space in NYC. As her installations grew more theatrical, Tucker shifted her focus towards the stage.
Since 2005, Tucker’s work in opera, theater, and dance has been seen at a variety of venues including The Metropolitan Opera, The Sydney Opera House, BAM, New York City Ballet, San Francisco Opera, Carnegie Hall, Teatro Amazonas, Wolf Trap Opera, Park Avenue Armory, and The Kitchen. She has collaborated with musicians like Paul McCartney, John Zorn, David T. Little, Jeffery Ziegler and Paola Prestini. Recently, Ms.Tucker designed The Flying Dutchman at the Sydney Opera House, The Flying Dutchman at San Francisco Opera, Bluebeard’s Castle at Opera Omaha, and Carmina Burana at Carnegie Hall. Upcoming projects include 21c. Liederabend at BAM, Excalibur, a new musical by Frank Wildhorn and directed by Francesca Zambello in St. Gallen, Switzerland, Le Descente D’Orphee at Gotham Chamber Opera, and her installation Listen, Quiet is on display at the Dillon Gallery in Chelsea from Sept 27-Oct 27.
Katy is a member of Black Ship, an international multimedia collective that re-imagines space through sound, architecture, scent and the visual arts and Wingspace Theatrical Design, a collective of artists, designers, writers, and thinkers committed to the practice of collaboration in theatrical design.
