Costume and Scenic Design

Alex Rockey (he/him/his) is a New York-based multi-disciplinary queer designer originally from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. His work has been seen in NYC through Mainstage productions at PACE University such as Guys and Dolls (Scenic), Dance sPace (Costume), The Wolves (Scenic), as well as outside work in the city like Holiday Inn (Papermill Playhouse, Costume Shop Intern), Beetlejuice the Musical (Winter Garden Theatre, Assistant Distresser) and, The Phantom Tollbooth (Berkeley Carroll Lower School, Costume) to name a few. His artistic endeavors have unfolded across the expanse of the United States, spanning from Maine to Texas and New Mexico. Noteworthy engagements include serving as the Scenic Designer for the 2021 summer season at Quisisana Resort, showcasing his talent as a Scenery Apprentice at The Santa Fe Opera during the summer of 2022, Costume Shop Staff Member at Maine State Music Theatre in 2023, and Costume Administrative Apprentice at The Santa Fe Opera in the summer of 2024. He has continued his artistic journey through opera, plays, and more at the University of Texas at Austin through …but you could’ve held my hand (Department of Theatre and Dance, Scenic), Fall For Dance (Department of Theatre and Dance, Costume), Proving Up (Butler School of Opera, Scenic) , his self-produced thesis, You Can’t Drag Us Down (Department of Theatre and Dance, Scenic & Costume), KHAITE (Spring Summer ‘25, New York Fashion Week, Project Coordinator), Giorgio Armani (Spring ’25, Collection Coordinator) and so much more. Alex endeavors to showcase queer identity and inspiration in his work through transformation, humor, and at times, subtlety.
