E. L. Hohn

Costume Design and Dramaturg

E.L. Hohn (they/she) is a costume designer and dramaturg for theatre and dance, specializing in new works, socially conscious theatre, and explorations of the creepy and uncanny. They have worked in Chicago, Austin, and New York, and were an Exhibited Designer in the USITT Emerging Artists Pavilion at the 2019 Prague Quadrennial. She holds an MFA in Costume Design from The University of Texas at Austin and a BA in History from Smith College, and currently lives in East Orange, New Jersey.

Design credits include Leap and the Net Will Appear for New Georges, The Art of Coarse Acting for Friends Seminary, devour. for LadyFest, Taiga in the Berkshires for Williamstown Theatre Festival, Not Clown for Pidgeonholed Theatre, Fixing Timon of Athens for The Rude Mechs, Ivanov for Piven Theatre Workshop, TISKETTASKET and Loose Gravel for Frank Wo/Men Collective, and In the Red and Brown Water and The Wild Party for The University of Texas at Austin Department of Theatre and Dance (both nominated for Best Costume Design by the B. Iden Payne Awards and Austin Critics Table Awards). Dramaturgy credits include The Woman in Black for Penfold Theatre, Co-Chair of Engaging Research for the Cohen New Works Festival, the devised production Modern Chalk Circle, and MFA thesis Visceral Design: Experiments in Creating the Uncanny for Live Performance.
