Scenic and Costume Design
Lawrence Moten is a New York City based designer working on stage, film/television, dance, and concert/festival design. Lawrence has worked both in Scenic and Costume design and finds his passion lies in creating the physical worlds for stories to come alive in.
New York design credits include work with The Public’s UNDER THE RADAR FESTIVAL, Atlantic Acting School, The Habitat, and Mary John Frank Productions. Regional work includes Williamstown Theatre Festival, Allenberry Playhouse, and Okeechobee Music and Arts Festival.
Lawrence especially enjoys work that brings the discussion and representation of minorities and marginalized people to the center of the room. This work began as a Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholar in undergrad but has grown into an essential part of Lawrence’s mindset and his work.
Raised in Seattle, WA and San Antonio, TX; Lawrence gained an appreciation for design, art, and music early on and decided to pursue his passion for design, earning his BFA in Theatrical Production Arts: Design from Ithaca College. He lives in Queens and freelances in across the country. Often, he can be found with a book or guitar in his hands.
“As a designer it is my goal to create simple, bold designs that allow us to reassess and refocus the lens through which we experience theatre and art. Art should always leave you pondering.”
