Scott Bolman

Lighting Design

Scott is a Brooklyn-based designer and educator working in a diverse array of performance mediums, including theater, dance, music and opera.

Recent credits: Failing to Levitate in my Studio (Athens and Epidaurus Festival, Athens), Noises Off (Chautauqua Theater Company), Robert Wilson's Der Sandmann (Dusseldorf Festspielhaus, Germany),  Anna Christie (The Wild Project), The May Queen (Playmakers Rep), Wilderness (En Garde Arts), Moment (Studio Theatre), MIDNIGHT (RADIALSYSTEM V, Berlin), Fortuna Desperata (Performa 2015), The Chandelier (Celebrity Cruise Lines) and A Wonderful Life (Goodspeed Opera).

Selected theater: Marcus Gardley's The Box (The Foundry), The Profane, Intimate Apparel, The May Queen, The Romeo & Juliet Project, Fifty Ways (Chautauqua Theater Company), Waiting for Godot (Benaki Museum, Athens), Antigone (Benaki Museum, Athens), Urban Renewal (FIAF, La Cité International).

Selected opera and concert: Missy Mazzoli's Songs from the Uproar (The Kitchen,REDCat), Darcy James Argue's Brooklyn Babylon (Brooklyn Academy of Music, Holland Festival, et al.), Jonathan Berger's Visitations (Prototype Festival) and John Musto's Later the Same Evening (Manhattan School of Music).

Selected dance work: New Dance Partners (Kansas City) with Robert Moses, Amy Seiwart and Penny Saunders, Shen Wei's performance for Zhang Huan's Q Confucious exhibit (Rockbund Museum, Shanghai), the DJ Spooky/Corey Baker collaboration Coup de Foudre (Guggenheim NYC), Shen Wei Dance Arts' Map (Lincoln Center Festival) and Héléne Lesterlin's Darkling (Cinedans Festival, Amsterdam).

With Robert Wilson: Zinnias (Peak Performances/Nuits des Fourvière), The Odyssey (National Theater of Greece/Piccolo Teatro di Milano) and KOOL (Guggenheim NYC/Akademie der Kunst, Berlin). He will also be working on the upcoming Wilson production ofPaola Prestini's new opera Two Oars (Zagreb, Croatia, 2018).

Scott graduated Magna Cum Laude from Amherst College and received his MFA from the Yale School of Drama. Scott has served as an adjunct professor at Colorado College and Montclair State University, a teaching artist at the Brown-Trinity Rep Consortium and a guest lecturer at the Yale School of Drama and NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. Scott is a founding member of Wingspace design collective.
