Lighting Design
Burke Brown’s recent NYC work includes work with Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, Clubbed Thumb, Ars Nova, NYSF-Public Theater, the Incubator Arts Project, Apollo Theater, Ohio Theater, Joyce Soho, Three-Legged Dog, Here Arts Center, Ensemble Studio Theatre, Julliard, Joe’s Pub, La Mama ETC, Mabou Mines, Under The Radar Festival, Summer Play Festival, Playwright’s Realm, and the Baryshnikov Arts Center.
His regional work includes work at the Cleveland Playhouse, Magic Theatre, Northern Stage, Asolo Repertory Theatre, Two River Theater Company, and Playmakers Repertory Company.
His international work includes productions at the Abbey Theatre in Dublin, the Golden Mask Festival in Moscow, the Seoul Performing Arts Festival in South Korea, the Festival of Two Worlds in Spoleto, Italy, Opera Erratica in Toronto and the Bayerisches Staatsballett in Munich.
Recent dance design includes work with Alvin Ailey, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Houston Ballet, St. Louis Ballet, Kansas City Ballet, Compañia Nacional de Danza (Mexico), and Aszure Barton & Artists.
As a projection designer, Mr. Brown has worked with Diverse City Co., the Big Apple Baroque, Yale Baroque Opera Company, and the Bone Orchard Collective.
Mr. Brown was the 2008 Artist in Residence for Lighting Design for Ars Nova and volunteers with the 52nd Street Project on an annual basis. Mr. Brown has directed Sarah Kane’s Crave, and Tarell Alvin McCraney’s Run, Mourner, Run (co-Director) for the Yale Cabaret.
Mr. Brown has a Bachelors of Arts in International Studies and Theater Studies from Guilford College in Greensboro, NC. He received his Masters of Fine Arts from the Yale School of Drama. Originally from North Carolina, Burke Brown has lived in Beijing, Miami, and New Haven, and now lives in Brooklyn, NY.
