Wingspace is a member run and primarily member supported organization. All initiatives and offerings are a direct response to the needs and desires of our community.
How do we get those things done? A system of Wingspace committees propels our work forward, with members joining and exiting committees as priorities change. New committees are formed in response to what members would like to accomplish. You can view our living operating budget here.

The Executive Committee sets Wingspace policy in concert with the expressed goals of the membership. Members of the committee are chosen in a yearly election. They can nominate themselves or be nominated by fellow Wingspace members. The EC also serves as the Board of Directors and manages WS finances.

The Wingspace Mentorship Program is a free, one-year program designed to broaden access and disrupt barriers early-career designers encounter while trying to advance their careers in the performing arts. We seek to create a learner-centered community that empowers curious and passionate mentees to connect to career opportunities, build connections in the design community, and hone their skills. We offer mentorships in directing, scenic design, costume design, lighting design, sound design and projection design. Find more information about the Mentorship Program here.

Salons produces panels and roundtables tackling issues in contemporary theatrical design. We currently run the Virtual Salon series on Thursdays that is available to the public. Any member of the WS community can propose a salon and the committee will work with the proposer to produce it. For more information about both upcoming and past salons, click here.

These community guidelines have been agreed to by all current members of Wingspace as a system of accountability for all participants in Wingspace-stewarded spaces, including members, mentees, invited guest speakers or any other attendees. Wingspace is dedicated to pursuing a future that is free from harassment and centered in equity, justice, and consent. Violation of any of these guidelines will not be tolerated. To report a violation of these agreements please email excommittee@wingspace.com.
Consent is clear, communicated, enthusiastic, the responsibility of the initiator, ongoing, and can be renegotiated or withheld at any time. Be mindful of how mutual understanding is essential to healthy interpersonal and communal interactions.
Listen with the intent to gain understanding, not refute. Try not to interrupt.
Use “I” instead of “they/we/you” statements. Do not speak for others, but from your own experience or understanding. If you would like to share story that is not yours, always ask permission.
It is assumed each participant enters each space and conversation with a good heart, but sometimes our words or actions are received differently than they are intended. Center the impact instead of the intentions.
Community dialogues can often be challenging and triggering. Do what you need to do to navigate your mental, emotional, and physical well-being.
Wingspace recognizes the historic and ongoing damage caused by deeply embedded systemic biases in our national culture, educational institutions, and the entertainment industry. Such biases - including but not limited to those based in race, color, sex, gender, ability, or religion - unequivocally go against our values as a community. We strive to steward spaces where these biases can be mindfully addressed and dismantled whenever and wherever they appear.
Wingspace’s Anti-Harassment policy aims to:
Uphold a Culture of Consent. Consent is clear, communicated, enthusiastic, the responsibility of the initiator, ongoing, and can be renegotiated or withheld at any time. It is not exclusive to sexual activity. It means listening to each other, respecting each other, and being mindful of how mutual understanding is essential to healthy interpersonal and communal interactions.
Practice Accountability. Having a clear and structured protocol that defines anti-harassment as an ongoing community responsibility holds accountable all Wingspace members and empowers them as active agents in recognizing, confronting, and course correcting for our internal shortcomings.
Maintain Accessibility. Harassment and bias restrict who can safely participate in any space, and are therefore antithetical to Wingspace’s values.
To report an incident of harassment please email: excommittee@wingspace.com
