Summer Lee Jack is a freelance costume designer living and working in New York City. Summer has been designing costumes for over 15 years and has worked on over 125 productions of operas, musicals, plays, and films, garnering considerable critical praise for her work. Of Summer's production of Into the Woods, BroadwayWorld.Com stated "Summer Lee Jack's stunning costumes are a perfect balance of the illusory and the real world, bringing some edge to the story." The New York Times praised her costumes for Complete Works of Shakespeare (Abridged), stating "Summer Lee Jack’s costume design adds considerably to the show’s cheery playfulness.” Recent opera design credits include new productions of Ricky Ian Gordon's Morning Star and John Musto's Rhoda and the Fossil Hunt with On Site Opera in NYC with director Eric Einhorn. Other New York opera credits include Die Verschworenen and Die Winterreise at Hofstra Opera Theater with director Isabel Milenski, and The Cunning Little Vixen, Die Zauberflöte, Lehar's Das Land des Lächelns, Le Roi l’a Dit, and La Doriclea with director Dona Vaughn at The Manhattan School of Music. In 2016, Summer designed Ed Berkeley's productions of Otello and La Cenerentola for The Boston Symphony Orchestra. Over several seasons at the Aspen Opera Center, Summer designed new productions of Bolcom's The Wedding with director David Schweizer; Così fan tutte with director James Robinson; The Picture of Dorian Gray directed by Gregory Fortner; and La Boheme, Beatrice and Benedict, Roméo et Juliette, The Classical Style, The Cows of Apollo, Carmen, and Eugene Onegin with director Ed Berkeley. Additional opera credits include Tosca and Madama Butterfly at the Madison Theater; La Belle Helene at Lakes Area Music Festival; Du Yun's Angel’s Bone at Oberlin Conservatory; Don Pasquale with Venture Opera; and Lucia di Lammermoor and Seven Deadly Sins with Heartbeat Opera. Recent New York theatre credits include: Baghdaddy (Off Broadway) at St. Luke’s Theatre; The Tower at HERE Arts Center; The Elephant in Every Room I Enter at La Mama and New York Theatre Workshop; Romeo and Juliet at New York Classical Theatre; Sonata 1962 at Acorn Theater / New York Musical Festival; Pericles at Animus Theatre Company / Soho Rep; and The Feigned Courtesans at The New School. Additional theatre credits include Bossa Nova at Yale Repertory Theater; Romeo and Juliet with Empirical Rogue Theatre Company; A Christmas Carol and Nevermore for The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey; Small Town Story and A Good Farmer at American Theater Group / SOPAC; and The Playboy of the Western World at Quintessence Theatre Company in Philadelphia. Summer is a proud member of United Scenic Artists Local 829, and she is an active member in Wingspace Theatrical Design Collective. Originally from Dallas, Texas, her undergraduate degree is in Scenography from Arizona State University, and she has an MFA in Design from the Yale School of Drama.
