This is a call to action for the Wingspace Community to participate in Fall of Freedom. As theatremakers who come together around the shared values of design, community, and activism, this is an opportunity to activate our super powers across this wide network of world builders on a scale that echoes the gravity of this moment. Art is a tool for social change and civic engagement, so let’s make some art and shape some change.

Over the two days of Fall of Freedom, Wingspace will facilitate the creation of a collective multimedia manifesto. By engaging the constellation of designers, directors, and dramaturgs across the United States, we can create something that is not only visually stunning, but shouts with the power of our collective voices that WE REFUSE AMERICAN FASCISM and we PROMISE to continue to collectively RESIST.

The Plan

So what’s the plan? On the first day of Fall of Freedom we’re making content! On the second day, we’re sharing content! We’ll be using the following format as a starting point… fill in the blanks:

I REFUSE __________________

I PROMISE __________________

Manifesto content can take any form: images, videos, writing, drawings, photos of projections, sculptures, audio… whatever you can dream. You can contribute something as simple as words on a Post-it note. Or as involved as hosting an art party using the WS example framework. However you are able to participate, thank you!

Suggestions for an individual:

  • Write your words on a piece of paper and take a photo

  • Create a drawing

  • Record a video of yourself speaking/signing/singing your phrases

  • Write the words on a cake

  • Draw your words on the sidewalk in chalk

  • Project the words on your set and take a photo

  • Write a whole manifesto!

Suggestions for a group:

  • Teachers: Gather your students to create work together on campus

  • In tech? Host an art making event over your dinner break

  • Get some friends to write their phrases on signs and take a photo holding them up together (bonus points for photos in tech on sets, in the audience, or backstage!)

  • Gather a group in person or virtually and follow the Wingspace example framework

  • Make flags or signs of your manifesto and have a parade

  • Host a potluck or a dinner party and make some art for your manifesto

  • Note: If you are planning a larger gathering you can register your event with Fall of Freedom

If you are in NYC, you are invited to join WS at the Old American Can factory to create content in community. There will be art supplies and snacks! 4pm on Friday November 22nd at 232 3rd Street, Brooklyn.

Once you create your piece of content, upload it to the digital wall, which we will watch grow throughout the day. At the end of November 21st, the Wingspace content fairies will synthesize everyone’s contributions into one epic broadcast. Throughout November 22nd we will share this collective offering across different platforms: social media, email, projected on buildings, in our public spaces, and culminating in a virtual salon where we can share and witness all of  the Fall of Freedom offerings from across the nation and view the complete manifesto.

How to Upload your content to the Digital Wall:
Double click anywhere on the Digital Wall.  Then you can drag or paste files into the Wall or simply click the plus icon in the lower right corner and add that way. You can add images, videos, audio files, links, or documents. No accounts or log-ins are required.  (NOTE: The maximum file size for uploads is 20mb)

Schedule

November 21st: We’re Making!

  • Create your content!

  • Upload to the Digital Wall

  • Bask in the satisfaction of making art for change :-)

November 22nd: We’re Sharing!

  • Wingspace will roll out a series of posts, reels, and stories combining the contributed content to amplify our collective manifesto across multiple platforms. Please share!

  • At 8pm ET/5pm PT join Wingspace for a Virtual Salon to view content created throughout the two days, share experiences, discuss future actions, and be in community.

We’d love to know if you are planning an event and support in any way possible. Send us a DM on Instagram or email: wingspacefof@gmail.com

What is Fall of Freedom

“Fall of Freedom is an urgent call to the arts community to unite in defiance of authoritarian forces sweeping the nation…Beginning November 21–22, 2025, galleries, museums, libraries, comedy clubs, theaters, and concert halls across the country will host exhibitions, performances, and public events that channel the urgency of this moment. Fall of Freedom is an open invitation to artists, creators, and communities to take part—and to celebrate the experiences, cultures, and identities that shape the fabric of our nation.”
