Scenic and Costume Design

Yoon Bae is an Asian, award-winning scenic and costume designer and academic, works internationally in Europe, Asia, and America. She is an active member of the Local USA 829 Diversity committee.

US highlights are Disconnect (San Jose Repertory Theatre, Winner of San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics Award for Best Set Design), Oedipus El Rey (San Diego Rep, Nominee the Outstanding Dramatic Production The San Diego Theatre Critics Circle, Craig Noel Awards), and House Of Joy (San Diego Rep, CA), Once, and Once On This Island (Pioneer Theatre Company, UT), The Wolves (Actors Theatre of Louisville, KY), The Great Gatsby, Paul Gordon’s musical Jane Austen’s Emma, The Sunshine Boys, and The Importance of Being Earnest (Arizona Theatre Company, Recipient of Best Set and Costume Awards, Arizona Republic), The Magic Flute, As You Like It, Evita, Anything Goes and Ain’t Misbehavin’ (Phoenix Theatre, nominated for Best Design, Arizona Republic).

On London’s West End, she worked extensively with John Napier. Productions included; world premiere Gone with the Wind (Gillian Lynne Theatre, directed by Trevor Nunn), Equus (The Gielgud Theatre, featuring Daniel Radcliffe), world premiere Birdsong (Harold Pinter Theatre), and Skellig (The Young Vic).

International highlights are Don Giovanni (Welsh National Opera), Bernstein’s Candide (Tokyo), both directed by John Caird, Three Thousand Troubled Threads (Edinburgh International Festival), Picasso’s Women (Ambassador Theatre Group) World premiere of Caridad Svich’s Archipelago, Running the Silk Road (the Barbican Theatre), Private Lives, The Full Monty, and Closer (Seoul Arts Center).

Yoon has taught at Central Saint Martins, Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Rose Bruford, Oklahoma City University, University of Arizona. She is currently Assistant Professor of Scenic Design at the University of Kentucky.
